Finding Books
 
Books can be found through MaagNet, the Maag Library online catalog or through the OhioLINK Catalog. Use MaagNet to locate items available through Maag Library. Use the OhioLINK catalog to locate items available through other OhioLINK institutions. These items can be requested and delivered to Maag Library for pickup.
 
Browsing for books

Resources are located throughout the library: items in the Reference Room, Serials and in the circulating collection are all arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification System. Once you locate a book or journal that is useful in one of these areas, you can locate information on the same or similar topics by locating the same call number in the other areas of the library. See Call Numbers and Floor Plans for assistance. Some of the call numbers where you will find film/motion pictures information are:

  • PN1993-1999 -- Motion Pictures
  • PN1997-1997.85 -- Motion Pictures. Plays, scenarios, etc.

Online Articles

These databases provide a starting point for your research. To see other available databases, visit the Research Databases page.

 

  • Many journals are now available through online subscription databases and through the OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center. Various terms can be used to search these databases, including subject and keywords. Most databases allow access by current YSU faculty, students and staff from off campus, although a few are restricted to in-library use only. For more information about connecting from home, see off-campus access.

    • Academic Search Premier
      Academic Search Premier is the world's largest scholarly, multi-discipline, full text database designed specifically for academic institutions. This resource indexes over 4300 periodicals and contains full text for over 3400 scholarly publications. Academic Search Premier includes full-page images as well as color embedded images. this scholarly collection provides full text journal coverage for nearly all academic areas of study - including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, and ethnic studies.

    • Digital Video Collection
      Digital Video Collection contains full-length educational videos covering a wide variety of subjects. The Digital Video Collection currently includes videos from the distributor Films for the Humanities and Sciences. Additional sources will be added.

      Full text of journal articles from major publishers. Browse by journal title or subject category or do a keyword search. An OhioLINK Database.

    • JSTOR
      Supplies full text articles from the very first volume to the last 3-5 years for approximately 240 titles in the Arts & Sciences.

The links below provide access to film resources on the Internet.

 

  • CinemaSpot
    A film information Web portal, with well-organized links to much useful information on films and the film industry.
  • The Internet Movie Database
    The IMDb provides much useful information about films, listing, with hyperlinks, virtually every pertinent movie detail, including actors, directors, writers, producers, filming locations and trivia. There is current and historical information about awards and festivals and links to news, reviews, show times, and fan sites on the Web.
  • Internet Public Library: Movies
    Recommended resources for movie links on the web. Also breaks down the links into sub-headings.
  • Voice of the Shuttle
    A gateway site providing access to web pages for Humanities Research (see Media Studies > Film/Video and Media Studies > Media Theory & History).
