Internet Access Policy


Central to the mission of Maag Library is supplying the informational needs of the University population and its library patrons. We strive to develop collections, resources and services to meet those needs. It is within this context that Maag Library offers access to the Internet/World Wide Web.

Rules and Regulations

The following is a list of rules and regulations established by W.F. Maag Library governing the use of its Internet/World Wide Web sites.







  • All computer resources of Maag Library shall be used solely for legitimate and authorized academic, instructional, research and public service purposes.
  • Users may neither receive nor use unauthorized copies of software, nor make unauthorized copies of software for themselves or others.
  • Users shall not attempt unauthorized modification or repair to any equipment belonging to Maag Library.
  • Game playing or the use of chat rooms is considered a misuse of computer privileges.
  • All users must comply with Youngstown State University’s policy concerning sexual harassment. According to the YSU’s Board of trustees, “sexual harassment” is any behavior that “has the purpose or effect of substantially interfering with an individual’s academic or professional performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive employment, education, or living environment.”
  • Users may not use their own software programs on the library’s web sites.
  • Failure to comply with any of the above will result in a loss of Internet/World Wide Web privileges.


W. F. Maag Library is not responsible for any damage to a patron’s diskette or computer, or for any loss of data, damage or liability that may occur from patron use of the library’s computers. The library has no control over the information accessed through the internet. We cannot be held responsible for its content. Maag Library cannot censor access to material nor protect users from offensive material. It remains the responsibility of the user to determine what is appropriate.
