YSU in 1908
 

The first college-level courses are offered at the Youngstown Association School, in Commercial Law. Meanwhile, the Ohio Legislature passed a bill that divided the state into geographical quarters and called for the establishment of a normal school (e.g., a teachers college) in each. Youngstown was a candidate community, but lost out to Kent.
