YSU in 1927

The Youngstown College of the Youngstown Institute of Technology (a liberal arts college) opened, offering Bachelor of Arts degrees. The Law School relocated from the Bonnell house to the Wick mansion. The first 100 students who were enrolled at the YMCA day college of liberal arts were honored with special certificates and membership in the Century Club. Phi Gamma, which would become the oldest social fraternity on campus, was founded, and the “Y” Triangle Club served as a proto-sorority at YIT, until the founding of the Phi Lambda Delta social sorority. Red and gold became the official school colors and Ron Clarke, the physical education director of the YMCA, was selected to coach YIT’s first collegiate basketball team.
