YSU in 1930
 

As the College of Liberal Arts was authorized by the Ohio Department of Education to grant Bachelor of Arts degrees, four scholars were appointed to serve as department chairmen: Robert D. Bowden (Social Science), Dr. Eugene B. Scudder (Chemistry), Dr. Castle W. Foard (Mathematics & Physics), and Dr. Leonard Richardson (Modern Languages). Meanwhile, Youngstown Institute of Technology continued to use the old Rayen High School as a preparatory high and business school, and seventeen YIT co-eds were selected to run Youngstown for a day.
