Youngstown College president Howard W. Jones received an honorary Doctor of Pedagogy from Westminster College
(Pennsylvania) for his “distinctive work in the theory of education.” Louis Deesz was appointed dean of the
Youngstown College engineering school. Previous to this appointment, Deesz served as dean of the evening engineering
school. While additional faculty and staff were hired, YoCo’s head football coach, Dwight V. “Dike” Beede, announced
that he was leaving the College. With football suspended for the duration of World Warl II, Beede elected to return
to the insurance business he had started some years previously.
