YSU in 1946

Enrollment soared to 2,220, then to 3,460 students, due chiefly to a large influx of military veterans. The Dana Musical Institute of Youngstown College celebrated its 75th anniversary. The YoCo Biology Department commemorated its tenth year of instruction. Four surplus barracks were obtained from the Army for use as classroom and office space. The Youngstown Municipal Airport, in conjunction with Youngstown College, began a flying course for veterans. 150 new faculty and staff were welcomed at the Newcomers’ Dinner, and President Howard W. Jones shot a 1100-pound moose while hunting in Québec.
