Maag Library Multimedia Center course reserves policy

The policies outlined below, implemented in the Spring semester, 2007, will allow the Multimedia Center to service all faculty's classes equitably and ensure that students find course reserve materials available when they are assigned. They also follow the Music Library Association Guidelines for Digital Reserves and YSU's copyright policies.

Reserve lists are processed in the order received. Lists with complete information are processed first.

Reserve lists should be submitted on the Music Library Course Reserves Request form, either in print to the circulation desk, as an email attachment to Kenny Reyes, or using the Web form.

Lists should be submitted one month before the start of the semester. Please include items for at least the first month of class sessions.

Items may be added to your reserve list by submitting forms later in the semester, but one month before you expect to assign the material.

We will process emergency requests, but not to the detriment of processing regular requests. We cannot guarantee emergency requests will be available sooner than one week after the request is submitted.

Personal copies will be placed on reserve only if a Library copy is not obtainable. We will attempt to order any item for reserve; please supply complete information.

You may place as many articles from electronic journals as you desire on reserve, but due to continued and growing space problems in the Multimedia Center we can only place a reasonable number of required readings on reserve for each class.

Books and scores which are optional for the class will remain in the stacks. We will rely on cooperation among the students and the efficient recall system provided by circulation to ensure that these optional items are available when needed.

We offer digital audio reserves for classes based on material owned by Maag Library or the Multimedia Center. The Music Library Association Guidelines cited above require that the Library make "a good faith effort to purchase a commercially available copy of anything that is provided by an instructor" for digital audio reserves. Therefore:
- We will digitize from a commercial compact disc or LP owned by a faculty member if a Library copy is not available. A copy of the disc will be ordered for the Library.
- We will digitize from faculty provided compact disc compilations only when complete track listing and source information is provided so that we may purchase a copy of the material for the Library, or substitute a Library owned performance of the same material.
- We cannot place faculty provided compilations on cassette or compact disc on reserves.

We cannot digitize from audio cassettes.
