Collections

Information resources can be found throughout Maag Library.

The Circulating Collection books are found on floors 3 through 6A. This collection consists of Oversize books (designated as Maag Oversize in the library catalog) which are arranged in the first one or two rows of shelves as you enter the stack area. Following the Oversize section is the General Collection (Maag General). Books are arranged on the shelf by Library of Congress classification number. See the building guide for additional location information.

Reference Resources such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, indexes and statistical information are found in the Reference Room, Main Floor, and must be used in the library. Some reference resources are also available electronically (see Research Databases).

Research Databases consist of electronic resources that may be aids in finding information (indexes, catalogs) or the actual information (electronic journal articles, books, images, music, videos). Maag subscribes to over 100 databases and thousands of electronic journals.

JSTOR is an electronic journal archive that provides complete back issues of journals (from volume 1 No.1 to within 3-5 years of current issues) with full-text articles. YSU Maag Library subscribes to several collections containing over 270 journal titles in key fields of the Arts & Sciences.

The OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center (EJC) links to over 6000 electronic journals which may be browsed or searched. The Electronic Journal Finder is a tool used to determine if the journal you are looking for is available electronically in one of several databases. The E-Journal Finder lists journals in databases such as the Electronic Journal Center, Lexis Nexis Academic, or Academic Search Premier.

Curriculum Resource Center (CRC) is a specialized collection for education.  The CRC is located on the main floor of the Beeghly College of Education.

The Multimedia Collection, third floor, includes audio recordings, video recordings, and computer software for music as well as other disciplines.

Government Documents, 3nd floor, is home to Maag Library's collection of official publications of Ohio and the United States government. Items here are arranged by the agency that produces the documents, rather than by subject. The collection includes books, pamphlets, maps, and microforms and electronic publications. A search in MaagNet (online catalog) supplies location information or links to the electronic document.

The Periodical Collection of print journals is on the sixth floor of Maag Library.  The Library currently  subscribes to about 950 titles in a wide variety of subjects.  All of the journals are arranged in L.C. Classification.

Current newspapers can be found on the main floor in the Reference Room.  About 45 current newspaper titles are received.  Check the online catalog to determine how many issues of each title are retained.

Microform collections are housed on the 3nd floor of the Library.  A wealth of historical information is stored in microforms, along with back issues of selected journal titles.

Archives and Special Collections are located on the 5th Floor.  Many specialized collections documenting the history of the University can be found in this area.  The Archives and Special Collections unit is open 1:00 - 4:00 Monday through Friday, with other hours by appointment.
