About the Department

The Catalog Department organizes and provides access to all materials in Maag Library and the Wilcox Curriculum Resource Center (CRC) utilizing the online catalog, MaagNet.  On MaagNet, each item or series of items has a corresponding bibliographic record which gives an accurate physical description of the item, name, title, and subject access points, and location within the Library of Congress Classification system. Our main goal is to make sure the records in MaagNet accurately describe and indicate location of materials existing within Maag Library or the CRC so that patrons may access needed items.

In order to achieve this goal, our primary duties include:

• adding new material and gift items to MaagNet
• bibliographic record maintenance, including assignment of classification numbers, subject headings, access points, as well as format description and series updates
• item record maintenance such as location, circulation status, and barcode number
• physical item processing which involves labeling, barcoding, covers, and pamphlet binding
• transfer of items from one location to another, to storage, or to the regional depository in Rootstown
• authority control, which ensures bibliographic record retrieval through the use of consistent name, series, and subject headings
• small repairs to book bindings and covers
