Electronic Resources

The following databases are available electronically. Remote access to databases indicated by (*) is available to current students faculty and staff.  Access to other databases is restricted to the campus computer network.

ABI/INFORM Global. 1971 to date. Database containing citations and abstracts of articles in business-related publications. Includes such areas as advertising, communication, human resources, management, and telecommunication. Some articles are full text.

*ERIC (1966-present). Provides citations to and abstracts of journal articles from the CIJE (Current Index to Journals in Education) as well as unpublished reports, papers and other monographs from RIE (Resources in Education). The unpublished materials (denoted by accession numbers beginning with ED) are generally available on microfiche in the Microform Center, Lower Level.

*ISI Citation Indexes. 1990 to date. This is a database that includes the electronic version of the Arts and Humanities Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index as well as the Science Citation Index. Provides references to cited authors and articles as well as keyword searches.

Lexis-Nexis Universe.  A full-text database of news-related articles including general, business, and law topics from newspapers, magazines, wire services, trade journals and government sources.

Newsbank Newsfile Collection (1991 to current). A full-text database that provides articles from over 500 regional, national and international newspapers. Older articles may be found in the Newsbank Microfiche Collection (Microfiche X185) in the Microforms Room, Lower Level.

Newspaper Abstracts   References to articles in over 30 newspapers nationwide, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and Wall Street Journal. (The library subscribes to microfilm back issues of these four newspapers. Ask in the Microforms Center).

Periodical Abstracts. Provides references to articles in over 1600 magazines and journals on a variety of topics. Some articles are full-text.

*PsycINFO (1967-present). (Or search Historical PsycINFO, 1887-1966.) The electronic version of Psychological Abstracts, providing citations to and abstracts of journal articles, dissertations and book chapters on psychology and related fields.

Social Issues Resources (SIRS Researcher). Includes full-text articles from newspapers, periodicals and government documents relating to social, scientific, historic, economic, and political issues.

There are many WWW sites available on Communication topics.  Check any of the following for a listing of some popular sites: Explore the Internet with the Library of Congress. You may also do a keyword search using a World Wide Web search engine. Choose one from our homepage (see Internet Searching and Resources) or pick one from Netsearch.
