Locating Books in Economics

Organizations and Associations

To find books, government documents and other materials (not journal articles) owned by Maag Library for Economics, search MaagNet, the library's online public access catalog (OPAC). MaagNet is searchable by subject, keyword, author or title. If you have difficulty locating the correct subject heading, it may help to consult the Library of Congress Subject Headings, a set of large red books located behind the Reference Desk in the Reference Room. You may also search the OhioLINK Central Catalog for materials owned by other libraries in OhioLINK.

The New Palgrave:  A Dictionary of Economics. A four-volume set which contains nearly 2000 entries,  fully cross-referenced.  Provides definitions and bibliographic references covering all aspects of economics.

Dictionary of Economics. Considered a "dictionary for economists."  Provides succinct definitions in various areas of economics.  Also includes three-digit codes indicating the branch of economics in which the term falls under as classified by the Economic Journal.

The HarperCollins Dictionary of Economics. All major topics of economics are covered in 1700 definitions and 200 diagrams, charts and tables.  Includes biographies of important economists.

Encyclopedia of American Economic History.  Three volumes which contain articles on America's economic development, economic thought, institutions, and society.

Susan Lee's ABZ's of Economics.  Easy-to-read definitions of economic terms for the layperson.

Survey of Social Science.  Economics Series.  A five-volume set containing 393 articles drawn from 12 areas of economic sciences.  Each 6-page article is divided into an Overview, Applications, Context, Bibliography, and Cross-References.  Includes a glossary and comprehensive index.

American Statistics Index. A subject index to statistics contained in U.S. government publications.  Consult the index volume to get an entry number.  Look up the entry number in the abstract voume for complete bibliographic information including .

Statistical Abstract of the United States. Annual summary of social, political, and economic statistics for the United States.  It is a compendium of data collected from over 220 different government and private agencies.

The Economist Book of Vital World Statistics. Provides a unique comparative portrait of contemporary life around the world.  Statistics are compiled and charted on 146 countries.
