Offsite Storage

Recently, the Ohio Board of Regents constructed a library depository in Rootstown, Ohio, in order to serve regional universities--The University of Akron, Kent State University, Cleveland State University, The Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine, and Youngstown State University. By moving material to the Depository which has not been used in the past few years, or is not likely to be used in the near future, the libraries gain more space for current, up-to-date material.

Material sent to the Rootstown Depository is not removed from circulation. Library patrons may request material by completing an online request form (also available from the Reference desk), and can expect delivery of the requested item within one to three days. The material at the Depository is stored using high-density storage methods, on 30-feet high shelves arranged according to size rather than call number. This type of shelving makes browsing impossible, so patrons must make certain that the material they seek is actually located in the Depository by checking MaagNet, the online catalog at Maag Library. As for any item located in Maag Library, patrons need to know the title and call number of the items they want to request from the Depository.

Any patron with borrowing privileges at one of the five university libraries may place a request for material from the Depository. For visitors to the Depository, there is a comfortable reading room equipped with a photocopier.
