Off-campus Access  


Access to MaagNet (YSU's online catalog) and the OhioLINK library catalog is available to anyone. Other services, such as remote access to subscription databases, are generally restricted to current students, faculty and staff of Youngstown State University.

On-campus users and those who are connected to the YSU network (see "Remote Access" at the Tech Desk FAQ page) should have seamless access to most resources. Off-campus users connecting through other ISPs (Internet Service Providers) will usually have to authenticate by providing user information, including your institution, your name (as it appears on your YSU ID) and library barcode.

Courtesy Card Holders, YSU Alumni and Friends of Maag Library, have borrowing privileges at Maag and through the OhioLINK catalog as well as access to databases using computers in Maag Library. Due to licensing restrictions, courtesy card holders do not have remote access to subscription databases.


While many resources are available in cooperation with OhioLINK, Maag subscribes to several electronic resources on an individual basis. Access to these resources from off-campus is made possible by logging in to the Maag Library proxy server.

For off-campus access to these databases, two options are available.

  • Through OhioLINK
    • Authenticate to OhioLINK at http://auth.ohiolink.edu
    • Select the desired database and click the URL that begins with http://eps.maag.ysu.edu
    • Login to the Maag Proxy Server to access the database
  • Direct link
    • Select the desired database from the list below

Accessing Databases through OhioLINK

When access to a database is provided through OhioLink, take the following steps for access:


Troubleshooting

  • Are you a current student, faculty or staff member at YSU? Only these user groups have access to restricted resources.

  • Is access restricted to campus network or library computers only? Check the database description for further information.

  • Don't have a library barcode on the back of your ID? Register (in person) at the Circulation Desk in Maag Library. Present a current, valid YSU ID to obtain a library barcode.

  • Make sure your name is entered according to the directions on the page. Enter your barcode number without spaces.

  • Problems with your library record: do you have overdue books or outstanding fines? If so, your record may be blocked. You can view your library record at http://jupiter.ysu.edu/patroninfo. Contact the Circulation Desk at 330-941-3678 for assistance.

  • Are you using a current version of a Web browser? These browsers should work well with authentication:
    • Internet Explorer 6.0 or above (Windows)
    • Mozilla 1.5 or above (Windows or Macintosh)
    • Netscape 6.0 or above (Windows or Macintosh)
    • Firefox 1.0 or above (Windows or Macintosh)
    • Safari 1.0 or above (Macintosh)


  • AOL users: If AOL is your Internet Service Provider (ISP), please note that the AOL browser does not work with authentication. You will need to minimize your AOL browser and then open another browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator to be able to log in and use databases.

  • Do you have cookies enabled in your browser? Visit the OhioLINK Frequently Asked Questions and click "Check Browser" if you are not sure.
