Patron Conduct Policy

Maag Library is committed to providing all patrons, including faculty, staff, students, visitors, and community members, with a welcoming, safe, and secure environment conducive to study and research. We support a culture of tolerance, diversity, inclusion, and respect. Library patrons are expected to behave in a responsible, appropriate, and courteous manner and abide by all University policies.
 
Per the YSU Student Code of Conduct, students are required to identify themselves when asked to do so by University staff.  Article III, sec. 8: Failure to comply with directions and/or oral or written instructions which are given by any university official, student, faculty member, or staff who is acting in an official university capacity and/or failure to identify oneself to these persons when requested to do so.
 

Violation of library policy may result in loss of library privileges, University-imposed discipline, and/or being subjected to criminal prosecution or other legal action. In situations where patrons ignore warnings or library staff feel threatened, the YSU Police will be called. Maag Library reserves the right to limit or deny access to any individual or group in violation of the policies listed below, including but not limited to:

  1. Loud, offensive, and/or disruptive behavior
  2. Disruption, harassment or abuse of patrons or staff, including assault, intimidation, or threats through language or action
  3. Sexual harassment of patrons or staff or any overt sexual behavior
  4. Displaying pornography on library computers
  5. Damage, defacement, destruction, or vandalism of library materials, equipment, or facilities
  6. Refusal to leave the building at time of closing or when directed by staff
  7. Entering areas marked as “Staff Only,” including behind library service desks
  8. Refusal to identify yourself to library staff when requested
  9. Lack of appropriate attire, including shoes and shirts
  10. Bringing animals into the library, except officially-designated service animals
  11. Leaving a child under the age of 13 unattended
  12. Soliciting, polling, petitioning, or conducting unauthorized surveys inside the library building OR disrupting entry to the building by engaging in these activities
  13. Distribution or posting of printed material or other items inside the library other than the approved designated area
  14. Smoking or use of any tobacco product, including vaping, inside the library
  15. Bringing, possessing, or using alcohol or illegal drugs/substances inside the library
  16. Displaying overt signs of substance abuse, including drunkenness
  17. Possession or use of weapons
  18. Any criminal behavior or activity
