How can I locate books and more using MaagNet and OhioLINK?
- MaagNet searches locate books, media, and electronic resources purchased by Maag Library
- Searching for a specific item use: Author, Title, or Call Number
- Searching for a general topic use: Keyword or Subject
- Keyword – Searches the entire record for the term(s)
- Subject – Searches for an exact term from the Library of Congress Subject Headings,
if a specific term is unknown it is usually best to start with a keyword search
- Broaden or narrow the search using various strategies
- Scroll down a very relevant record that looks promising and click on the most
pertinent Library of Congress Subject Heading
- Use truncation, an asterisk * in MaagNet, to search variations of a word, for
example, vot* searches: vote, votes, voter, voting
- Use Boolean operators AND, OR, and AND NOT
- Click on “Search OhioLINK Central” button to locate items from over 80 member libraries
- View records to determine availability and format (print, electronic, etc.)
- Note the location ,
call number , and
status
- Find physical items by using the
building guide
to assist
- Some materials that are electronic resources offer a URL that you can click on to access the document.
This usually works off campus, too although you may need your library barcode.
- Mark records of interest to export for printing and/or e-mailing, if desired
- Renewal online can be available through
“Your Library Record”
- OhioLINK searches locate books, media and more owned and shared by over 80 Ohio Libraries.
- Search terms and strategies for OhioLINK are the same as for MaagNet
- Once an item of interest is located check to see if any libraries have this item available
- If it is available, click on “Request this Item” and follow the directions.
- Delivery to another OhioLINK library is always an option when making the request
- Request this item online from the OhioLINK record using a YSU library barcode (usually takes 3-5 days)
- Check “Your Circulation Record” to see the
status of the request
- Steps include: “Requested,” “In Transit,” and “OhioLINK Rec’d”
- Pick-up the item once it is received at the Circulation Desk on the Main Floor of Maag Library
- Frequently an OhioLINK item may be renewed once on-line through
“Your Circulation Record”
- Going to the library that actually has the item and borrowing it directly is also a possibility
