How can I find background information using encyclopedias?

General encyclopedias offer a wonderful way to develop a general understanding of a topic. Specialized subject encyclopedias frequently provide a more detailed portrayl of a term. They can also assist with topic selection. Some are available electronically while others may be located in the Reference Room of Maag Library on the Main Floor. The print resources call also be found using the call numbers for a particular discipline.
