    Over 1,000 illustrations of fashion from ancient times to the early 1990's.

    An encyclopedia of fashion designers active during the period from 1945 to the present.
  • Costume of the Western world: pictorial guide and glossary Ref GT 513 .Y37 1980
    Traces the development of costume from the early middle ages to 1980.
  • Encyclopedia of clothing and fashion Ref GT 507 .E53 2005
    Articles cover the technology, design, and social meaning of dress throughout history.
  • Encyclopedia of textiles Ref TS 1309 .J47 1992
    Covers all aspects of textile design, manufacture, weaving processes, as well as key figures in textile history.

    Profiles fashion designers and retailers from many countries who have had the most impact on American dress and culture from the late 19th century to the year 2000.

Finding Books

Books can be found through MaagNet, the Maag Library online catalog or through the OhioLINK Catalog. Use MaagNet to locate items available through Maag Library. Use the OhioLINK catalog to locate items available through other OhioLINK institutions. These items can be requested and delivered to Maag Library for pickup.

Browsing for books
Fashion, Design, and Textile resources are located throughout the library: items in the Reference Room, Serials and in the circulating collection are all arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification System. Once you locate a book or journal that is useful in one of these areas, you can locate information on the same or similar topics by locating the same call number in the other areas of the library. See Call Numbers and Floor Plans for assistance. Some of the call numbers where you will find fashion information are:

Finding Articles

Articles are available in print and electronic sources. The information below will help you decide where to begin searching for articles.

Articles in print

Journals that Maag Library receives in print can be located by searching MaagNet, browsing by call number or through the list of Human Ecology journals received by Maag Library. These journals are located in the sixth floor of Maag Library and are arranged in call number order.

Online Articles

Many journals are now available through online subscription databases and through the OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center. Various terms can be used to search these databases, including subject and keywords. Most databases allow access by current YSU faculty, students and staff from off campus, although a few are restricted to in-library use only.   • Academic Search Premier
    Indexes thousand of multi-discipline journals that may contain articles on the different aspects of fashion. Also contains full-text, color embedded images for some articles.

  • Applied Science and Technology Abstracts (1983 to present)
    A good starting place for finding articles from technology periodicals covering fabrics, fibers, and textile industry. Some articles are full-text.

  • Art Abstracts (1929 to present)
    Indexes hundreds of international art publications, including periodicals, yearbook, and museum bulletins. Covers the topics of fashion, costume, and textiles as they relate to the art world. Some articles are full text.

  • Business and Industry (1994 to present)
    Multi-industry business database with a strong global focus on company, product, and industry information. Indexes trade and business publications, industry newsletters, and a selection of regional and international newspapers. Many articles are full-text.

  • Business Source Premier (1984 to present) -- Contains full-text for WWD - Women's Wear Daily from May 2004 to present
    Includes over 3,200 business journals that may contain articles on the fashion industry and retail trade. More than 2,000 titles are full-text online.

  • Social Sciences Index
    A good source for locating journal articles about the psychological, sociological, or health aspects of clothing and dress, along with information on the textile and clothing industries.
